I believe this was made by sand casting, something you did in high school with small projects by pouring liquid into a sand mold, this definitely is not made in a traditional cymbal fashion with brass
The cracks were there when I purchase the Bell brand new, the drum store said that's how it was made.
I bought a second one for a friend and it was the same way, it was never smooth.
