The good: These drums sound amazing, and they look like fine furniture.
The bad: The drums have blemishes. The exterior of the toms and kick have minor scuffs that are not noticeable on stage, but the kick has a roughly 5" crack of the outer ply on the inside of the drum and there is also a dent on the inside of the shell. The front resonant bass drum hoop matches the shell, but I have a 10 ply maple hoop on the batter for added durability - the original hoop was lost during a move.
The drums sound great, and a little TLC will have them looking like a $1,200 kit again.
I personally view the kick drum as a blunt force instrument, and I have found no losses with the damage to the drum in terms of performance and sound.
