We just bought a new home and need an architectural designer to design the unfinished lower level, to be built into a mother-in-law suite covering essential spaces like a kitchenette, bathroom, bedroom, living room and more. We want creative solutions that overcome basement challenges.
Scope of work
- Design a comprehensive plan for the unfinished lower level, New mother-in-law suite: including kitchenette, bathroom, bedroom, laundry, and other spaces.
- Provide 3D design and rendering to visualize the design before execution.
- Must understand electrical, plumbing, carpentry, lighting and space requirements.
- Ensure designs meet building codes and permitting requirements, covering egress, ceiling heights, HVAC, and insulation needs, etc
- Suggest solutions for moisture control, including waterproofing, ventilation, and material selection.
- May also coordinate with contractors, builders, plumbers, and electricians.
- Manage the project budget to align design with spending plans.
- Adapt design as necessary to address construction realities like pipes and posts.
Ideal Candidate
- Licensed architect preferred, but not required
- Must be local to the Waukesha County or surrounding area
- Certified Interior Designer (CID) or NCIDQ certification
- Proven portfolio of similar lower level projects
- Experience in space planning for unfinished or awkward layouts
- Knowledge of building codes and permitting processes
- Understanding of moisture and basement challenges
- Proficient in 3D design and space optimization
- Experience in coordinating with contractors
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Effective budget management
- Flexible and adaptive in design adjustments
