This is part of my mother's estate. I also have one of my own that I do automotive upholstery with. There is a new leather belt included, but I have installed an insulated copper wire belt like I did on my own machine. Leather loses grip, breaks, and drives me nuts. (I installed my copper wire belt more than a decade ago.)
Top finish is worn and the belt derailleur is missing. Easy to derail without it.
Just tested this machine by mending a pair of jeans. Five layers, no problem.
