A beautiful piece of maritime history. We assume this came from a U.S. Navy vessel, though we have nothing really to substantiate that claim. Ordinarily there would be a BUSHIPS number on the actual compass but I don't see that. It has been used as part of the decor at a supper club in Madison, WI for decades. Unlike other binnacles, this one does not have an inclinometer but it does have a chart tube.
Plenty of brass that could be shined up. At one time this may have been illuminated but the cord is in rough shape, therefore I did not have the nerve to test it.
The cover has a kerosene lamp with wick. (see photos)
Some of these Kelvin and White binnacles have a Lionel compass. This has a Kelvin and White compass.
It'll look great in your man cave or waterfront hospitality venue.
