1975 GE Versatronic Electric cooking center range conventional oven along with microwave oven. Clean and fully functional. Last of the lower 915 mhz frequency allows for deeper meat penatration of the microwave.
The GE Veratronic cook center. A rare stove indeed. A conventional oven and 700 watt microwave w 915 MHZ combined in one oven. The first Versatronics were introduced in 1967 for the 1968 model year and GE made multiple versions through the mid 1970's.
The electronics (magnetron, transformers, controls) for microwave function of the oven are in the space where the bottom drawer is on a non-microwave stove. These stoves even had P7 Oven Cleaning. They were expensive and not really that popular. The economics of the 1970's and cheaper counter top microwaves killed them. A major issue with them was the majority of pans and utensils people had in the late 1960's were not microwave and heat oven friendly. Metal reflects microwave and shouldn't be used in the oven when microwaving. Other great cookware, such as then then hiighly durable and popular Corning Centura (made from their famous rocket nose cone Pyroceram material and coated with a super strong glaze that contained metal) could not be safely used in a microwave either.
