The tea party movement is not part of the GOP. Infact if you have studied closely those that consider themselves part of the movement or whom have attended the events, you will see they are as much opposed to the Republicans as they are the Democrates. The fact is they are sick of both parties. This is shown well by the current race for NY 23. Here you had a Republican canidate who was a sheep in wolves clothing for the Democrates. Even though she was highly supported by Newt, the tea party people saw through her and threw her overboard and supported the conservative candidate. It should be noted they were right, because as soon as she dropped out she supported the democratic candidate. Also, Newt ended up looking like the stupidest republican ever!
The tea party group tends to be anti-liberal and discontented with the Republican party. They tend to be libertarian by nature, anti-tax, anti-big government, anti-government business as usual. Infact they are done with both parties. They will not vote for a republican because they are a republican. They will seek or create independence. Infact, I think one of the worst things republicans could do is believe the tea party will support them because the tea party is anit-liberal. This does not mean the party is pro-republican. Any repub who believes this they will get burned.
As much as the tea parties annoy the left with their organization and efforts to get out their message, my view of political history is that this party will grow and become stronger. While many on the left, and some on the right don't believe it, the tea party will become a force that both parties will have to contend with and will create a fracture in the system. How large of a fracture we will have to wait and see.
