you can train a kitten to use the litter box if you keep them and their litter box in a contained area for a few days (usually a bathroom works best) obviously you would also leave food and water with them also. Doing this gives them no alternative place to go, in your case, behind the futon.
also putting a drop or two of ammonia in the litter box will make them want to go there. but for them to stop going behind the futon you're going to have to get rid of the smell. use bleach if you can, that has worked best for me, but if you can't definitely buy some pet odor eliminator spray and make sure to saturate the area. the kitten is young enough so hopefully you can stop the problem before its gets worse! good luck.
