Cascio Interstate Music, 13819 West National Ave. in New Berlin, will present Yamaha Guitars artist Alex Skolnick in a free, live acoustic performance/clinic on Tuesday, May 6th at 6:00 p.m. Alex is a member of the thrash metal group Testament, is currently one of the guitarists in Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and also performs jazz in his own Alex Skolnick Trio.

Sponsored by Cascio Interstate and Yamaha Guitars, this event will showcase an outstanding acoustic performance from Skolnick, with a question & answer session, plus autographs. For more information, please call (262) 789-7600.

Born in 1968, Alex grew up in Berkeley, California. At age nine, a fascination with the rock group Kiss led to a desire to learn guitar. He eventually became a member with the thrash metal band Testament for five albums and countless tours, ranking high in many guitar magazine polls, often as 'Best Thrash Guitarist' and 'Most Underrated Guitarist.'

An intense study of jazz led to him earning a BFA from New School University's jazz program (class of 2001). It was at the New School where Alex Skolnick Trio was born. Their first recording, "Goodbye To Romance: Standards For A New Generation" brought together the worlds of metal and traditional jazz in an unprecedented blend, reaching the top 30 on the US jazz radio charts, and receiving rave reviews from Downbeat, Jazziz and other magazines. Alex Skolnick Trio continues to tour at jazz and rock venues as well as festivals, including the Rochester Intl. Jazz Festival and the Riverbend Festival in Chatanooga. Their latest album is entitled “Last Day in Paradise.”

Alex is also a featured member of several high profile rock/pop/theater projects, including the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, which performs to sold-out crowds across the U.S. at major venues including Milwaukee’s Bradley Center. Alex is also featured in Jekyll & Hyde In Concert, the first touring version of the hit Broadway show, and is a key element in the new Jekyll soundtrack album on Koch records.

In 2005, Alex reunited with Testament (after 13 years) for a series of sold out concerts in Europe and Japan, including festivals with groups including Korn, Def Leppard and Guns N’ Roses. Testament’s latest CD project “The Formation of Damnation,” will be released on Tuesday, April 29th on Nuclear Blast Records. See www.alexskolnick.com for more information.
